About the wrought iron basket

wrought iron decor

I see the basket on the stairs at my mom’s house filled with flowers in summer. In fall it is full of pumpkins. Every time I go into the garden or to the market I load it with fruit and vegetables. I spotted them at fairs where artisans exhibited and sold their handcrafted products. I have always liked baskets but I never imagined I would be able to interpret them my way – in my blacksmith workshop. The charming thing about this piece is that soft wood has been replaced by solid metal and this revamping confuses the observer for a moment.

I was very pleased with the final product and lots of my friends loved it. It led to the decision of using the basic motif of interweaving iron strips in other products and I already have a few ideas. It could be a bigger basket with a round ground plan, or a belt made of interlaced iron strips and incorporated into a bench or a table as an accessory.
